As I've researched, interviewed, and experienced more and
more High Intensity Interval Training, I've learned that not only is it very
effective for fat loss, but also very fun. Maybe that is why it's trending!
According to the National Institutes of Health, High
Intensity Interval Training is "comprised of brief periods of
high-intensity exercise interposed with recovery periods at a lower
intensity." For example, one can flip a heavy tire for 30 seconds, resulting
in raising their heart rate, followed by a set of light jumping jacks that
allows their heart rate to recover and then repeating the exercises.
Being the fitness junkie I am, and currently training for
another bodybuilding competition, I put this exercise to use!
Not only did I feel like I accomplished a great workout, but
this type of training kept my workout interesting!
I recently interviewed Professor Gold, an Athletic Training
coach and Physical Education teacher at Salisbury University to talk about his
opinion on HIIT.
Professor Gold says that he uses HIIT opposed to LISS (Low
Intensity Steady State) cardio on almost all of his athletes and students
because it’s also a faster way to burn calories.
